A FRIEND IN NEED – WENDY BLANCHARD, M.S., CHHC, CPS

The saying, “God works in mysterious ways” became personal to me late last night.

I am usually asleep by 10 p.m., but was awake, and about 11 p.m. decided to watch “I Love Lucy” on Amazon Prime on my iPad. As I was getting ready to watch the show, I saw a notification come through of an old and dear friend, a man who was one of my first friends at the beginning of my recovery…who went out of his way to befriend me and to take me under his wing, including doing an interview with me when I had just begun my own radio show in support of my project, and who now lives far away, doing a Facebook live. I decided to tune in to that instead. God works in mysterious ways.

Immediately, I realized that my friend was in need of mental health support. As an educator of MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID, I am trained to recognize the signs and symptoms of a mental health disorder/illness, and I recognized that my friend was in crisis. I texted with him briefly throughout his LIVE,  offering him loving support, but he was struggling to engage with me. I immediately contacted the police in his state and asked them to do a WELLNESS CHECK.

This morning, my friend said, “Loving friend, thank you…humbling as hell. You saved me…I’m so lost…I’m so found.”

I encourage everyone everywhere to inquire about becoming a MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AIDER…

YOU CAN SAVE A LIFE. PLEASE CONTACT YOUR LOCAL MENTAL HEALTH ASSOCIATION AND ASK ABOUT MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID TRAINING IN YOUR AREA. You can also visit http://Www.mentalhealthfirstaid.org

I feel so incredibly humbled that the Universe/God/Spirit led me, and guided me in helping my friend…BY THE GRACE OF GOD. Every morning in prayer and meditation I ask the Universe/God/Spirit to “show me how you would use me…Today, please show me where to go, who to see, what to say and to whom, to help another person…” This is a prayer I learned in studying the Metaphysical text, A COURSE IN MIRACLES…My prayer is always answered.

Being connected to our own intuition is what guides us…Inspiration through self connection and to that of our Loving Universe…Listen and see beyond your physical limitations…always trust your own intuition to be your guide…

See yourself in others and treat them as you…I saw myself in my sweet friend last night, and without hesitation, took action…Guided by love…When we practice self love…we can offer it to others.

When someone is unwell, and has lost their way, it is up to those of us around them to guide them back to wellness…most especially when they are in the throws of illness…

I recommend that we all have a WRAP (WELLNESS RECOVERY ACTION PLAN), created by Mary Ellen Copeland, so that when we begin to feel mentally unwell, we can use this plan with those we have appointed to our wellness support team to carry out our wishes, alongside of us, for returning to wellness and recovery. We must be proactive in our recovery from any disease. Click on the link below for information on WRAP.

Our mental health must be tended to with as much care as our physical health…We can remain in WELLNESS if we treat the whole person, body, mind and spirit. And, when we begin to feel unwell, we must ask for support and guidance. We cannot do this alone.

When we practice self care, daily, healthy practices that resonate with us, we are using the tools that we know will help us to achieve and to sustain WELLNESS…and WELLNESS IS OUR POWER.

God does work in mysterious ways…through the power of love.

Love and blessings,

Wendy
